Present: Cindy Clifton (SSS), Jim Devine (VSS), Mariella Doyle (SYC), Stuart Gilfillen (YSP), Ron Greenberg (SYC), Bob Johnson (Field Club), Jim Liston (VYC, VSS), Pam Phillips (SBSYC), Ed Price (BKYC).  There was a quorum of 8 yacht clubs represented.

Motion by Ed Price to approve the May 2, 2007 Annual Meeting minutes with corrections.  Passed.

Treasurer:  Cindy, for Vicken Kasparian, reported $1,200 to $1,400 in bank.  Invoices for 2008-2009 dues to be sent to all clubs except YSP.

Sarasota Bay Boat of the Year championship:

  • Results posted at web site, two races remaining in series, will try to update standings following the Sarasota Bay Cup (SBC) and before the KW race.
  • Shark’ Tooth Cup had 10 cruisers and 2 non-spin entrants.  Good course, race management, and winds.
  • The SBC will be jointly hosted by SYC and SSS instead of BKYC.
  • Key West Rendezvous to date has 16 entrants for the SRQ start and 51 overall.
  • The Cortez Summer Sailstice will not be a BOTY event…issues with the site and logistics to handle the event.
  • Reviewed the BOTY meeting held on April 16, 2008.  Discussion covered desire for some longer (30 – 40 mile) gulf races and permit cruising spinnakers; e.g. around Egmont, from SRQ past Venice and back to Venice, etc.
  • Agreed upon the BOTY schedule for 2008-2009.  Discussed tentative cruising longer race in February, perhaps the 21st or 28th involving SRQ and VYC/VSS and stump pass.  The Sailfest may include a race from Big Pass to SW Channel 1 and back.

Old Business

  • Cindy discussed the Corinthian Fund, managed by the Sarasota Community Foundation, with the purpose to assist local youth sailors who qualify to attend national, PAN AM and Olympic racing events.  $1,800 spent sending 6 kids to Annapolis for the Mallory Cup.  No longer doing the $1.00 per boat per race at SSS.  There will be fund raiser at the Labor Day Regatta.
  • There was discussion about getting the trophies rounded up for the WFPHRF meeting to be held June 21, location unknown.

New Business

  • Race Management classes to be scheduled for June or July at SSS.
  • Discussed going to two meetings a year and / or conducting meetings in conjunction with regattas, utilizing e-mail more and perhaps a news letter e-mail.  Stu volunteered to send the news letter if folks would send him information for distribution.

The floor was opened to nominations of candidates for election to SBYA offices.

  • Motion by Ed Price, second by Stuart Gilfillen to relect same officers; i.e. Cindy Clifton as Chairperson, Jim Liston as Secretary, and Vicken Kasparian as Treasurer.  Passed.

The next Meeting of the BOD will be 6:30 PM, Wednesday August 6.

Meeting Adjourned at 8:00 PM.
